90 Days of God’s Goodness

I have been a fan of the writings of Randy Alcorn for years. In his book “90 Days of God’s Goodness” Randy covers the gamut of issues people may have in reconciling evil in this world and the belief in a good God. There are 90 days worth of devotional readings. The readings begin with a passage of Scripture, then he makes application of an issue brought up in the Scripture. Finally he ends in a prayer.

The book is subtitled, “Daily Reflections That Shine Light on Personal Darkness.” This is a good description of the book. It is not really a devotional book, in that the author does no exegete the passage of Scripture. He uses the scripture as a point of reference. The orientation of the writing is personal. He includes many of his own personal struggles to see a good God in the midst of an evil world. He also includes contemporary stories of other people who have gone through significant loss and yet have a firm belief in the goodness of God. In fact, that belief is what has sustained them through those hard times.

I recommend this book for anyone who is dealing with loss or disappointment in life. I found myself coming away from these readings with one thought that stuck with me through the day. It is a good reminder of our place in God’s great plan.
